Braces consist of two critical components designed to straighten crooked teeth gradually: (1) ceramic or metal brackets and (2) wires. These brackets are affixed directly onto the teeth, and a primary arch-wire connects each bracket. Once the braces are removed, the arch-wire is meticulously bent to conform to the optimal bite or the desired outcome.
The process involves the application of pressure to the teeth as the wires, threaded through the brackets, strive to return to their original shape. This pressure is instrumental in guiding the teeth into their intended positions. Additionally, rubber bands, or elastics, are worn daily to exert additional pressure, facilitating proper alignment.
