Inlays & Onlays

An inlay or onlay would be an optimal choice for individuals with teeth exhibiting damage to more than half of the biting surface.

Inlays and Onlays Defined

Inlays and onlays repair damaged teeth and are crafted from materials like gold, composite, or porcelain. Inlays, akin to fillings, are applied within the tooth’s cusp tips, while onlays extend over the cusps for broader restoration. Although gold was traditionally favoured, porcelain has recently gained popularity due to its aesthetic appeal and durability.

Inlay and Onlay Application

You can expect two appointments for inlays or onlays. Initially, we remove the filling or address any decayed/damaged tooth area, preparing it for the onlay or inlay. An impression is taken for a precise fit, sent to the lab for construction, and a temporary sealant is applied. At the second visit, we remove the adhesive, ensure the proper fit of the onlay or inlay, bond it to the tooth, and polish it for a smooth, uniform appearance alongside your other teeth.

Superior Inlay and Onlay Dental Services

While traditional fillings are still an option, they weaken your tooth. At the same time, an inlay or onlay could be an ideal alternative to avoid that. They are directly bonded to your tooth and strengthen the tooth rather than weaken it. In addition, traditional fillings typically last up to 6 years, while inlays or onlays can last twice as long, if not much longer.
