Bonding

How does bonding work?

The process begins with applying a bonding liquid, which lightly etches the tooth’s surface. Once the liquid sets, the dentist applies a custom-shaped and sculpted plastic resin onto the tooth. The resin is meticulously trimmed, smoothed, and polished. Following this procedure, the resin achieves a natural appearance.

Considerations for bonding

The bonding procedure is typically quick and uncomplicated, often accomplished in just one office visit, substantially enhancing the tooth’s visual appearance. It’s important to note that while the procedure offers immediate improvements, your natural tooth enamel remains more potent than the applied plastic resin. Over time, the resin may require maintenance, as it is more prone to staining, chipping, or breaking. Generally, bonding can last between three to five years before necessitating a follow-up treatment.
